Carol Sutherland is a graduate of Agnes Scott College where she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in fine art, elementary education and art education. She continued her studies in fine arts at Georgia State University. Carol taught art for nine years at St. Pius X High School where she served as chairman of the Fine Arts Department. She formed her own Carol Sutherland Studios in 1979 and worked as a professional artist focusing on corporate commission work. She has major works of art across the Southeast that may be seen in offices and major corporate centers. Carol returned to teaching in 1990, teaching art courses at Emory University, Callanwolde Fine Arts Center and, since 1997, at Atlanta Botanical Gardens. She is a member of the American Society of Botanical Artists and has been drawing botanical subject matter since 1991, when she was inspired by a trip to four of the Hawaiian Islands.
