Starting summer 2017, the Jewelry and Metalsmithing Department at Callanwolde is offering a structured track in which students can earn a certificate of completion. Students may choose to participate or not participate in the structured track certificate program.
Jewelry and Metalsmithing Foundation Track

Intro to Jewelry and Metalsmithing l
In this basic introductory class in the Jewelry and Metalsmithing structured track series we will use the required resource The Complete Photo Guide to Making Metal Jewelry. We will begin with an introduction to metals and gemstones by learning metalsmithing terminology, unique measurement systems, and the difference between base metals, alloys, and precious metals. The majority of the session will be spent learning and using the foundation skills of sawing, drilling, piercing, filing and finishing to complete an instructor led project.
Intro to Jewelry and Metalsmithing ll
This is the second class in the Jewelry and Metalsmithing Structured Track series and will continue using the required resource The Complete Photo Guide to Making Metal Jewelry. You will be introduced to new techniques that build on the foundation techniques learned in Jewelry and Metalsmithing I and will increase your skill level. We will begin with cold connections (rivets and fold over retention) and introduce hot connections using an acetylene torch. Next, students will learn methods of texturing metal and be introduced to forging and forming with an instructor led project.
Intro to Jewelry and Metalsmithing lll
The last class in the Jewelry and Metalsmithing Structured Track will again use the required resource The Complete Photo Guide to Making Metal Jewelry. The first half of the session will concentrate on methods of stone setting including bezel, tube and flush settings. The second half will be dedicated to student designed projects incorporating skills learned in the Jewelry and Metalsmithing structured track series.

Callanwolde was built in 1920 by Charles Howard Candler, eldest son of The Coca-Cola Company founder Asa Griggs Candler. The estate is located in the Druid Hills neighborhood of Atlanta and is on the National Register of Historic Places.
