Take all 3 foundation classes and earn a Certificate of Completion, or take foundation or specialty courses a la carte with instructor permission for foundation II, III.

The Callanwolde School of Horticulture and Culinary Arts is thrilled to announce a new series of classes based on horticulture. The Callanwolde estate has a long history of plants and gardening on the 12 acres that surround the mansion. Callanwolde is also excited to be partnering with The GreenHouse Foundation and Captain Planet Foundation offering instruction for students in need and a learning facility for teachers.

The GreenHouse Foundation was founded to educate, inspire and influence school-aged children in disadvantaged areas to become responsible stewards of their environment, communities and future. Renovation work is nearly complete on the Ruby Callaway Robinson Greenhouse, which will be used for our new Callanwolde School of Horticulture and Culinary Arts Foundation Program and the GreenHouse Foundation’s educational programs beginning in Winter Quarter 2018.

Complete all 3 foundation courses to receive a signed certificate of completion. Students may also take classes ala carte with instructor permission. Callanwolde also offers specialty courses and workshops!

Intro to Farm-to-Table I

Each season offers us new approaches, discoveries, and flavors. Join us in the garden, greenhouse, and the kitchen to experience the bounty and delights offered year-round by Mother Nature. From intro to soil health to medicinal herbs and delicious dishes we will explore how we can cultivate awareness and appreciation of our surroundings.  Through hands on experiences we will link ecological practices to healthy living, cooking, and creating in a variety of settings at the beautiful Callanwolde estate.  Topics include: Wonders of Nature, Seasonal Eating and Gardening, and Raw Food Dishes.

Intro to Farm-to-Table II

Topics include Basic Culinary Approaches and Organic Gardening/Farming Practices that Celebrate Flavor.

Intro to Farm-to-Table III

Topics include Conservation and Preservation of Heirlooms, Medicinal Plants and Recipes, Heritage and Cultural Practices in the Kitchen.

The New Ruby Callaway Robinson GreenHouse

We are excited to announce the opening of our new state of the art climate controlled greenhouse, The Ruby Callaway Robinson GreenHouse. This project, designed by the architectural firm Lord Aeck Sargent and built by Macallan Construction and Texas Greenhouse Company, will be used for Callanwolde’s School of Horticulture and Culinary Arts classes and workshops. The greenhouse has been named in honor of GreenHouse Foundation Co-Founders CeeLo Green and Shedonna Alexander’s grandmother, Ruby Callaway Robinson, and will serve as the new home for the GreenHouse Foundation’s School Partnership Training Program. The partnership training program will be an avenue to train teachers and families in the community to live a more sustainable life within their own homes. In addition, the facility will also be used as a training area for the Captain Planet Foundation.

Meet our Director of Horticulture and Culinary Arts

Andrea Zoppo, Callanwolde’s Director of Horticulture and Culinary Arts

Andrea Zoppo is an environmental educator, business owner, bee keeper and artist. With over 15 years of teaching experience and an extensive background in environmental education program management, she loves both teaching and expanding programs to serve, educate and instill stewardship in our natural world.

In 2008 she established her character, Miss Ladybug, through providing programs and working with children at local community gardens and schools. Since then, she has been organizing community events, classes and providing magical entertainment with art and garden education all over metro Atlanta. Andrea opened her own company, Ladybug Events, in 2015. It is a collection of Miss Ladybug’s services combined with her talented team of educators who share in her passion to spread creativity, environmental stewardship, and joy within our community.
As an AmeriCorps Alum, Andrea enjoys volunteering in her free time creating a public children’s garden, serving in hospice, and community literacy programs.  Her favorite plants are yarrow, rainbow chard and yellow speckled bee balm.
