Looking for visual arts classes in Atlanta? Callanwolde’s School of Visual Arts provides quality educational opportunities for children and adult students with a passion for making art.  Small classes and dedicated, professional instructors allow for the personal attention and encouragement crucial to the development of creative ability and confidence.

Our courses of study include:

Foundation Certificate programs are offered for beginning students who seek structured, intensive instruction in any of these areas. Specialized courses are for those seeking instruction beyond the Foundation level.  For details, click on any of the subject areas above.

Our Facilities

Callanwolde’s historic Carriage House is the location for many of our Visual Arts classes, including our darkroom – one of the only locations in Metro Atlanta outside of a college setting to learn the traditional method of black and white printing; our Jewelry studio, with work space for 8 students, acetylene hand torches, a hydraulic press, and many other features; our Weaving studio, with two rooms containing multiple looms and different working themes each quarter; and two Painting and Drawing studios are outfitted with ample room, many easels and tables, and natural light.

Our Pottery and Ceramics facilities include a Wheel studio in the basement of Candler Mansion, along with a detached Handbuilding studio next door.  Firing methods include cone ten reduction, cone six electric, Raku, salt, and soda.  Students are free to practice off-hours in our Pottery studios at no extra cost.

The Callanwolde Gallery

The Callanwolde Gallery opened in the Candler Mansion in 1975.  The Gallery provides supportive professional opportunities for emerging and established Atlanta area artists, presents innovative contemporary art, and stimulates audience understanding of and dialogue about new art.
