Designing: Billiard Room
Rachael’s love of the arts, architecture and interior design combined with her education, experience and travels influences her approach to design. Her goal is to capture the essence of her client’s desires while adding a touch of the unexpected.
Where did you find your inspiration for this year’s room?
My inspiration for my room stems from the idea of a family that travels the world, but loves to return home and spend time together sharing their unique finds.
What do you love most about your job?
I love being able to help my clients bring their ideas to life. Whether it’s a preteen who is ready for her “Big Girl” room or a couple that wants to show off their home as they entertain, it is rewarding for me to be able to help them achieve that goal. I have been blessed with the gift of creativity in interior design and I love to share it with others.
What are your favorite websites for inspiration?
I look to travel and nature photographers’ blogs and websites to find inspiration. I find the color combinations captured in nature to be awe-inspiring.
Callanwolde’s a home with a lot of history (i.e., it’s old)—how do you marry the history of the house with your design approach?
I believe the best way to combine the two is through the use of classic furniture lines and unexpected pops of color. The pieces that are selected should not fight with the room’s history but should complement it with style and grace.
What’s your favorite Christmas song or carol and why?
Carol of the Bells – It signals the beginning of the holidays for me. Whenever I hear it playing I remember why I love this time of year.
What’s a favorite Christmas memory?
My favorite Christmas memory is having my relatives all come together for a great meal. After dinner, we would watch “The Ten Commandments” or “The Sound of Music.” I have begun the same traditions with my children.
Do you have a favorite holiday food?
My mother makes a peach-apple cobbler that is to die for. She makes it every holiday and for a few special days in between. You just can’t go wrong with double crust!
Where do you dream of spending the Christmas holidays?
I would love to spend Christmas in Provence and Spain on a river cruise. The magic of Paris with the romance of Barcelona would make for a memorable holiday.
