Meet Our 2016 Volunteers of the Year!
Callanwolde honors Bill Lide and Roger Duvall of the Dekalb County Master Gardeners as Volunteers of the Year – 2016!
Who are the Master Gardeners?
The Master Gardeners originate from The University of Georgia’s extension agency program. Each county in Georgia has its own Master Gardener program. Gardeners go to different public places within the county and work on gardens, trails, and parks. “Master Gardeners come from all walks of life,” says Bill Lide. “They are interested in gardening, of course, but also volunteering- which is the most important aspect.” Learn more about the Master Gardener program here.
The Dekalb Master Gardeners’ Volunteer Service to Callanwolde
The Dekalb Master Gardeners have been voluntarily restoring and maintaining the historic Formal Garden at Callanwolde Fine Arts Center for the past eight years. Under Bill and Roger’s guidance, the Master Gardeners have brought the Formal Gardens back to their original historic plantings, and have built the Kendeda Fund Trail- a native species trail on the grounds of Callanwolde used for educational purposes.
Their favorite part about volunteering at Callanwolde? “It’s such a beautiful place, with beautiful plants- and a great community with lots of cool stuff going on!”
Thank you Bill and Roger!
