Mary Sweeney, founder and owner of Felted Heart, is a self-taught fiber artist dedicated to creating unique and ecofriendly wool clothing and accessories for women and children. She handcrafts one-of-a-kind garments and accessories, made with repurposed wool that is felted and then refashioned, reflecting a commitment to environmental sustainability.
Mary discovered her love of fiber when she started to felt wool from sweaters she found at thrift stores. She designed and made her first signature children’s felted wool poncho nearly 7 years ago. She continued experimenting with the felting process and began creating scarves and other woolen items by hand from wool roving. Soon she became involved in a local artists’ coop and began offering felting and sewing classes through the coop. Her green line of whimsical wool clothing and accessories continues to be among the coop’s best-selling line and recently earned her recognition in the AJC’s new Living Intown magazine. In 2008, Mary started a children’s summer camp, called Fiber and Fun, and she continues to share her love for felting and creating with the kids each summer. A competitive long-distance runner, Mary lives in Atlanta with her husband and two children.
