16 Days of Art
November 26 – December 11

See Schedule Below

WINTER HOUSE is a new 16-day event where families can enjoy a welcoming, art-filled holiday experience that reflects our passion for arts education.

What is WINTER HOUSE?

From November 26 to December 11 the Mansion will be open to the public to celebrate a new type of holiday tradition, one filled with art and holiday cheer. Entry is free, but please pre-purchase all ticketed workshops, performances, and events before coming to Callanwolde.

Imagine twinkling lights, laughter, and delicious treats all in one place in our 27,000 square-foot historic mansion filled with holiday magic, activities, and workshops for all. Friends sit by a blazing fire in the Wine Bar and Beer Garden, as families gather by the outdoor fire pits and make s’mores. Jazzy holiday sounds will fill the air while you peruse our holiday artist market, play classic board games in the Library with a glass of mulled wine, or learn how to build and decorate your very own gingerbread house. Santa will be making a special trip to the mansion from up north for photo sessions with furry friends and families.

What are the days and times?

WINTER HOUSE will run from November 26 to December 11.

Hours

Sunday – Thursday: 11:00 AM – 8:00 PM

Friday and Saturday: 11:00 AM – 9:00 PM

What are the workshops?

The mini-workshops feature Callanwolde’s most popular year-round classes. Sign-up for beginner classes in Throwing Pottery at the Wheel, Raku Firing, Jewelry Making, and Blacksmithing. We’re also offering Gingerbread House Making, Glass Etching, and more!

What else is there to do?

Find a cozy spot and play classic board games like Scrabble, Chess, Monopoly, and Trivial Pursuit.

Create a lasting memory by decorating a ceramic mug or ceramic ornaments. Ornaments include snowflakes, dreidels, gingerbread men, stars, snowmen, kitties, and dog bones. Who could ask for a better gift?

Take photos with Santa! Bring your family (including the little furry ones). Yes, pets are welcome, check our schedule for details.

Are you serving food and drinks?

What’s a glass of wine or mulled cider without individual charcuterie boards? And you can’t have beer without a hot pretzel! We’ll also have food trucks, s’more kits, cinnamon rolls, and coffee.

Will there be shopping?

Our entire 2,000 square-foot gallery will be filled with unique, high-quality items for sale, designed by our very own Callanwolde artists. Items include pottery, jewelry, scarves, and more – they make the best presents!

Any live entertainment?

Every evening, Winter House will feature live dance or musical performances. Jazz legend Joe Gransden will be performing with his quartet on December 4, and an array of pianists will be tickling the keys of our Steinway piano most evenings, including Jazz on the Lawn artist Joe Alterman on November 26. Robin Latimore will also be belting out soulful vocals on November 27.

Our resident professional dance company, Kit Modus, will perform on December 2 and 3, and Callanwolde’s very own dancers will be putting on the holiday show, OUR COMMON JOY, on December 10 and 11 that will blow you away!

Is Winter House kid-friendly?

Yes! Other than having their photo taken with Santa and playing family-friendly board games, we will have free holiday bags that include a fun scavenger hunt, coloring, and lots of activities. Don’t forget about s’mores by one of our fire pits as a special treat!

What does it cost?

Admission is free and all are welcome to visit the mansion and see our beautiful holiday trees and decorations! We strongly encourage everyone to register in advance for workshops and purchase tickets for our special music and dance performances, as space is limited and tickets will sell out quickly.
