Projects on the wheel will focus on small forms (cups\, bowls\, saucers). \nFor all virtual and onsite Pottery classes\, the tuition includes a $98 pass-through supply fee\, which covers the cost of one bag of stoneware\, raku\, or Lizella earthenware clay (first bags of porcelain are available for an additional $5 cost)\, glazes\, and 2\,000 cubic inches of firing space. The supply fee does NOT include tools\, students provide their own tools. Additional clay and tools may be purchased from the studio (credit card only). All work fired at Callanwolde must be produced in the Pottery Program studios (no outside work allowed). \nPaid Studio Access\nBasement\, Handbuilding (indoors and outdoors)\, Carriage House\, Sculpture\, and Glaze Studio Access.\nFor a cost of $50 (plus sales tax) per quarter\, students may opt in for additional studio access time between morning and evening classes.\nPaid Studio Access Hours:\nMonday – Thursday: 12:00 PM – 6:30 PM\nFriday: 9:30 AM – 9:30 PM\nSaturday: 9:30 AM – 2:00 PM\nIncludes Sunday: 9:30 AM – 2:00 PM \nStudents who do not opt for the paid studio access may use the studio without charge 1 ½ hours after morning classes\, 1 ½ hours before evening classes and Sundays 9:30 AM – 2:00 PM.

DESCRIPTION:Introduction/Intermediate Blacksmithing (Teens & Adults)  \nThis course offers introductory instruction to the forging\, forming\, cutting\, and joining skills of blacksmithing. Students will learn basic blacksmith safety\, how to start and manage a solid fuel forge\, the heat treatment of tool steel\, and how to forge weld. Projects range from hooks\, stylized leaves\, a two-tined fork\, cold cut chisel\, tong jaws\, and a seasonally themed capstone project.   \nReturning students will have the option of forging a selection of heads and figures. The selection of projects includes but is not limited to: skeletons\, horses\, cats\, owls\, rats\, wizards\, dogs\, rams\, and dragons. Intermediate students may also work with the instructor on other independent projects of their own choosing.   \nMaterials will be discussed in the first class; fuel for the student’s forge as well as the mild and tool steel for planned projects are provided by the studio.  \nStudents will need to wear 100% natural fiber flame retardant fibers like cotton or wool. No synthetic fibers or blends. Long sleeve shirts and pants that cover tops of footwear. Footwear must be leather or cotton canvas shoes that fully enclose feet.  \nAbout the Instructor: Garrett lives in Decatur and is a member of the ABANA and Alex Bealer Blacksmith Association of Georgia. SUMMARY:JWY 05 - Beginning/Intermediate Metalsmithing and Jewelry Design (Gindler)
DESCRIPTION:This course will teach traditional metalsmithing skills including sawing\, piercing\, texturing\, shaping\, and forming metal; soldering and cold connections\, and bezel-setting cabochon gemstones. It is appropriate for beginners with no previous experience with metalsmithing\, as well as for intermediate students. Students will learn to use and care for the tools of the craft\, and will use them to make art jewelry of their own design\, with an emphasis on wearability and comfort. Except for silver and gemstones\, which students need to purchase themselves\, all tools and materials will be provided and available in the studio.
