DESCRIPTION:This class introduces students to the atmospheric firing process of soda in a cross-draft kiln. It is ideal for students interested in the balance between control and unpredictability that this type of firing offers. Participants will learn how flame movement\, kiln placement\, and soda introduction affect surface development\, flashing\, and glaze response. Students will take part in kiln loading\, firing preparation\, and unloading. For all virtual and onsite Pottery classes\, the tuition includes a $98 pass-through supply fee\, which covers the cost of one bag of stoneware\, raku\, or Lizella earthenware clay (first bags of porcelain are available for an additional $5 cost)\, glazes\, and 2\,000 cubic inches of firing space. The supply fee does NOT include tools\, students provide their own tools. Additional clay and tools may be purchased from the studio (credit card only). All work fired at Callanwolde must be produced in the Pottery Program studios (no outside work allowed).

DESCRIPTION:Handbuilding is the art of making ceramic forms without the use of a potter’s wheel. Students will study the basics of building pots by pinch\, coil\, and/or slab built techniques\, and learn the important safety guidelines and procedures of ceramics studio. For all virtual and onsite Pottery classes\, the tuition includes a $98 pass-through supply fee\, which covers the cost of one bag of stoneware\, raku\, or Lizella earthenware clay (first bags of porcelain are available for an additional $5 cost)\, glazes\, and 2\,000 cubic inches of firing space. Intermediate students are self-directed but can explore more precision-based techniques such as prong setting\, chain making\, forging\, and hollow construction. Emphasis will be placed on proper use of tools and materials to create beautiful\, well-crafted and comfortable jewelry that will last years of wear. First two classes are demo heavy then students will have time to work on their projects for the remainder of the session. The instructor will give individual and group instruction throughout. Beginners can expect to make one to three projects in a session. All tools and materials are provided except gemstones and silver. Supply sources will be discussed at the first class.\n6week breakdown: \nWeek 1: Studio tour and safety dance. Demos in piercing\, drilling\, annealing\, soldering\, roller printing. Students get a piece of metal to practice techniques \nWeek 2: Design consulting and selecting materials for session project(s). Refresher demos from week one. It is practiced today primarily for its health benefits\, stress relief and relaxation. The slow flowing movements are designed to stimulate the flow of energy or chi in the body with the ultimate aim of rejuvenation and increased longevity. The slowness also allows the mind to be actively involved so that one’s awareness directs the movements\, integrating one’s body\, mind and spirit. This class will improve flexibility\, balance and overall well being. Beginners will learn the 13 Golden Postures.

SUMMARY:TEX 01 - Floor Loom Weaving - Weaver's Choice or Project From the Weaving Hat (Edmisten)
DESCRIPTION:This summer we will push our creative juices by setting individual weaving goals. The instructor will work individually with each student to help them accomplish their design vision. For those who want a more serendipitous experience\, projects can be selected at random from the weaving hat – how will you be sorted? Weaving consultation will be in-person in the weaving studio. Students who have some prior weaving experiences are welcome in this class. Brand new weavers are encouraged to take the Weaving Introduction Workshop or Beginners Plus! Class. Supplies available include 8/2\, 10/2\, 20/2 and some 8/4 cotton and are included in the registration fee.
