SUMMARY:DAP 12 - Glass Mosaic and Suncatcher (Trodglen)
DESCRIPTION:This class is about building a glass mosaic that will allow light to come through\, giving a stained glass effect. A picture frame with glass\, 14×17 or larger\, will be our canvas. We will use a sharpie or china pencil to measure and draw our design on the glass\, then use paint\, glass of all kinds\, and copper tape called “came” to create our design. It is highly recommended that the student start with a large frame. Frames\, broken glass and beads may be purchased at Goodwill\, Last Chance\, My Favorite Place and Scraplanta. Other suggested items: Sheets of glass\, glass\, plastic and pottery tiles of all shapes\, shells\, sea glass\, broken china\, beads\, old and broken jewelry\, or semiprecious stones. Small paintbrushes and bottles of Folk Art brand paint in the colors of the design you are making will be helpful and can Be purchased at Michael’s\, Hobby Lobby or Walmart. Please make sure to buy black and metallic gold\, silver\, or bronze. I will cut the glass for the students. E6000 clear epoxy glue is highly recommended. There is simply nothing else that will truly glue everything\, and quickly. E6000 is cheapest at Home Depot but can be found at any art supply store. Buy a big tube or two small ones. It’s best to stick with one color scheme with little accents and /or a complimentary color- warm colors with a splash of cool or multicolored texture\, for instance. Please check your registration receipt for link for the supply list.

SUMMARY:POT 16 - Altered Pottery (Intermediate Level Wheel) (Klapthor)
DESCRIPTION:In this intermediate class\, students will learn to create unique clay forms by altering their wheel-through vessels into new functional and sculptural creations. This altered pottery class will focus on transforming wheel-thrown forms into non-round shapes through bending\, cutting and attaching\, and adding hand-built elements. The goal is to move beyond the traditional circular form and create expressive\, individualized pieces. If you have ever wanted to take your cups and bowls to a new level\, join us to find the creative potential. Projects like lidded jars made into bird sculptures\, castles from cups\, and mugs becoming fish\, are just a few examples of the kind of altering we will explore. Students will need some experience with wheel-throwing. We will also be doing a small amount of handbuilding but no experience is required. For all virtual and onsite Pottery classes\, the tuition includes a $98 pass-through supply fee\, which covers the cost of one bag of stoneware\, raku\, or Lizella earthenware clay (first bags of porcelain are available for an additional $5 cost)\, glazes\, and 2\,000 cubic inches of firing space. The supply fee does NOT include tools\, students provide their own tools. Additional clay and tools may be purchased from the studio (credit card only). All work fired at Callanwolde must be produced in the Pottery Program studios (no outside work allowed).
