SUMMARY:POT 16 - Introduction to Wheel Throwing - New Students Only (Hook)
DESCRIPTION:This is an all-beginners class option that will introduce students to the art of pottery. It will cover the basic process and techniques of throwing and glazing. Students will also learn the important safety guidelines and procedures of the ceramics studio. New students only\, please. For all virtual and onsite Pottery classes\, the tuition includes a $98 pass-through supply fee\, which covers the cost of one bag of stoneware\, raku\, or Lizella earthenware clay (first bags of porcelain are available for an additional $5 cost)\, glazes\, and 2\,000 cubic inches of firing space. The supply fee does NOT include tools\, students provide their own tools. Additional clay and tools may be purchased from the studio (credit card only). All work fired at Callanwolde must be produced in the Pottery Program studios (no outside work allowed).

SUMMARY:JWY 06 - Beginning/Intermediate Metalsmithing and Jewelry Design (Gindler)
DESCRIPTION:This course will teach traditional metalsmithing skills including sawing\, piercing\, texturing\, shaping\, and forming metal; soldering and cold connections\, and bezel-setting cabochon gemstones. It is appropriate for beginners with no previous experience with metalsmithing\, as well as for intermediate students. Students will learn to use and care for the tools of the craft\, and will use them to make art jewelry of their own design\, with an emphasis on wearability and comfort. Except for silver and gemstones\, which students need to purchase themselves\, all tools and materials will be provided and available in the studio. Supply sources will be discussed in the first class.

Beginners can expect to make one to three projects in a session. All tools and materials are provided except gemstones and silver. Supply sources will be discussed at the first class.\n6week breakdown: \nWeek 1: Studio tour and safety dance. Demos in piercing\, drilling\, annealing\, soldering\, roller printing. Students get a piece of metal to practice techniques \nWeek 2: Design consulting and selecting materials for session project(s). Refresher demos from week one. More demos in soldering\, riveting\, filing\, sanding\, polishing. \nWeek 3 – 4: Students work on their project. Instructor floats to each student in class to instruct/troubleshoot/demo. Whole class is given opportunity to learn from each other and observe individualized demonstrations. \nWeeks 5 – 6: Students are finishing up their projects and demos are given in related finishing techniques: Reaching a glossy finish vs. matte/sanded finish. Mixing and applying patinas\, stone setting.

SUMMARY:TEX 01 - Floor Loom Weaving - Weaver's Choice or Project From the Weaving Hat (Edmisten)
DESCRIPTION:This summer we will push our creative juices by setting individual weaving goals. The instructor will work individually with each student to help them accomplish their design vision. For those who want a more serendipitous experience\, projects can be selected at random from the weaving hat – how will you be sorted? Weaving consultation will be in-person in the weaving studio. Students who have some prior weaving experiences are welcome in this class. Brand new weavers are encouraged to take the Weaving Introduction Workshop or Beginners Plus! Class. Supplies available include 8/2\, 10/2\, 20/2 and some 8/4 cotton and are included in the registration fee.
