Emily Christianson is a choreographer, performing artist, and movement instructor based in Atlanta, GA. As an artist and mother to two spirited young kids, Emily strives to balance art-making with the demands and joys of family life. Authenticity, vulnerability, and intimacy are ongoing avenues of exploration in her creative practices. Emily’s work has been presented most recently in Atlanta by Fly on a Wall arts platform, the Atlanta Mayor's Office of Cultural Affairs, and Oxford College of Emory University; and in San Diego by the University of California San Diego Department of Theatre and Dance. As a dancer and collaborator, Emily has worked with a wide variety of choreographers and dance companies in Atlanta, New York City, and San Diego, including Blake Beckham, Greg Catellier/ Catellier Dance Projects!, David Dorfman, Gathering Wild, gloATL, Noémie Lafrance, Nicole Livieratos, Mary Seidman, Yolande Snaith, and Zoetic Dance Ensemble, among others. In 2016 she formed ONE Movement Project with a group of fellow movement and theater artists based in Atlanta, Philadelphia, and San Diego. Their 3-year cross- country collaboration culminated in evening-length performances and public workshops in Atlanta and San Diego.Emily has taught contemporary technique classes and workshops for professional and emerging artists in and around Atlanta. She also teaches Pilates, Gyrotonic®, and Redcord® movement modalities. Her movement classes encourage personal inquiry and discovery within a supportive community environment.

Contemporary with Emily

This contemporary movement class explores our ever-changing relationship with gravity, tension, form, and release and builds a foundation of support from the ground up. Class will progress to spatial, dynamic phrase work that encourages individual exploration and expression. Class is geared toward intermediate/advanced movers, but beginners also welcome and will be accommodated with modified movements.
