The Ability Garden
The Ability Garden offers recreation-based group garden therapy programs in a wheelchair accessible space for youth and adults aged 12 and up living with physical, intellectual, and developmental disabilities at no cost to participants. Programs focus on greenhouse growing projects delivered in a structured and safe environment by trained horticultural therapists. The Ability Garden serves individuals living with a life-altering injury or chronic illness such as stroke, traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, diabetes, developmental disabilities, and aging. Disability, illness and other barriers to full health and well-being can result in lives disconnected from nature with limited opportunities for social recreation. Garden therapy in a supportive and safe environment can be a source of motivation that promotes inclusion, rebuilds community connections, and empowers through hands-on learning.
