Hi! I'm Ricky, a mechanical engineer turned photographer. I love the technical aspects and details of both cameras, and the darkroom equipment! While art, photography and printing is actual science and I find it fun to put numbers to a negative to find out how to get a perfect print. In my class we typically focus on learning and continuing the art of developing traditional black and white film (the boring part) and developing prints from those negatives (the fun part!). I also research entirely too much and enjoy the engineering of cameras; hopefully I can answer any question you may have with any obscure cameras! I love details and writing notes on how to make sure I get repeatable results in the darkroom. If you never stray from the formula in the beginning, and take notes as you go along, you will always end up with a great print!
As a hobbyist, I enjoy shooting 35mm, medium format and 4x5 large format. At Callanwolde we can print from 35mm and 120 film. My main cameras are a Mamiya C220, Nikon S2, and Nikon F4 (oh and an intrepid 4x5). Depending on the semester and students' wants we can always cover different topics such as toning prints, lith printing, flash and lighting setup, whatever anyone asks me within means!
