Karen Javits (she/her) is a poet, educator, and PhD candidate in Creative Writing at Georgia State University, where she teaches writing courses. Karen passionately leads the poetry workshop at Atlanta’s Callanwolde Fine Arts Center. As a poetry instructor, she nurtures her students’ strengths and challenges them to refine their craft, inspiring experimentation, and guiding them toward meaningful, generative writing experiences. Karen has taught students from middle school to college and community schools, including students from refugee and immigrant communities. She participated in the Sewanee Writers’ Conference as a Tennessee Williams Scholar and has attended several literary retreats and workshops. Her poetry has appeared in Crosswinds Journal, The Ekphrastic Review, and Crab Creek Review, with an award from The Atlanta Review. Originally from Miami Beach, FL, Karen lives in Decatur, GA, with her family. She's currently working on a full-length collection of poetry which explores motherhood, loss, and reimagined figures in Latin American folklore and classical mythology.
