Raku & Sagger Fire Workshop

April 5 @ 10:00 am - 3:00 pm

In this hands-on workshop students learn to decorate and fire using westernized raku methods using combustible materials to create striking glaze results that vary depending on the way the flames and oxygen react to create vibrant colors and/or crackle effects. We also will do one special firing using aluminum sagger techniques providing earthtones and similar results to pitfiring.

– Raku firing is low fire, and will not be water tight. Pots should be for decorative, non-food uses. Sculptures and decorative pottery forms are best, but any bisque fired pieces will work.

– Bring a meal for our thirty minute lunch break.

– Bring 5-7 small to midsize pieces or 2-3 large pieces to fire.

.

– All work must be bisque fired prior to the workshop.

– Handmade bisqueware will be available to purchase for students to use if they don’t have enough of their own work to fire.

– For safety and comfort, wear natural fibers clothing and closed toe shoes. No synthetic clothing or open toe shoes and sandals. Flame, water, and soot will likely create a dirty and smoky experience, so wear clothing that you will not mind getting dirty and possibly stained
